Medium regiments were able to fire in the anti-tank role using solid shot and did train for this. However, no evidence suggests this was ever tried out in action in North-West Europe. Medium regiments did, nonetheless, knock out enemy armour through indirect fire, and this page attempts to show some of these actions involving the 9th Medium Regiment RA.

9th Mediums took on an enemy tank (although the description sounds like this might be a self-propelled gun of some kind) with 81st (Welsh) Field Regiment directing fire. Direct hit scored and tank disabled. Evidence below from 81st Field War Diary and 9 AGRA War Diary.

9th Medium War Diary records that two of the C.O.s representatives went to 5 R.H.A. for the purpose of destroying two towers being used as observation posts by the enemy. One tower was successfully demolished (the towers were located at Herten, near Roermond) and the diary goes on to mention a Tiger tank knocked out. Likely this is a mistaken identification as no Tigers appear to have been operating in the area.

During Operation Blackcock the War Diary again records individual tanks as targets. Two tanks were engaged with the Air Observation Post (A.O.P.).
